Health Center - A Home for Women’s Healthcare

Certified Nurse Midwife Marie (Gudz) Gerecke has joined the Knox County Community Health Center’s staff of health practitioners.

Gerecke, who grew up in Mount Vernon, said she looks forward to returning to her roots and bringing her family, as well as her medical practice, back to Knox County.  Previously, she worked at the Cleveland Clinic and at a hospital in Massachusetts. 

Expanding women’s health services has been a goal for some time at the Health Center. Gerecke will offer a wide range of services that provide care to women throughout their lifespan, from teenagers to senior citizens. Gerecke will provide services at all of the Health Center’s locations in Mount Vernon, plus the Danville location, and will focus on comprehensive preventive care and treatment for a variety of women’s issues.

Gerecke said she doesn’t just see patients when they need an annual wellness exam or are experiencing an issue, rather, she can see patients to discuss emotional needs as well. “I really enjoy helping women learn about and understand their bodies better, and take special pride in helping women feel comfortable seeing me for their gynecological needs.”

As a mother of two daughters, Gerecke has a special passion for helping young women create positive health habits so they understand the importance of preventative care and treatment when an issue arises. “I also enjoy helping educate teenagers about their bodies and how to become responsible young adults.” 

At the Health Center, Gerecke’s services include: annual wellness exams; Pap tests, cancer screenings (breast, pelvic, cervix); diagnosis and treatment of common female health issues (ex. menstrual problems, hormonal concerns); postpartum care, menopause management and support; general education and body positivity empowerment; contraceptive management; and treatment of other gynecological concerns.
