Knox County Dental now under new management of the Knox County Community Health Center

Knox County’s Community Health Center is expanding once again. The first expansion was in 2019 when the Community Health Center opened its first satellite site, a counseling and medical services practice on East Main Street in Danville. This building has historically offered medical services, once housing Dr. Tidyman and Knox Community Hospital.

With the East Main Street location using every square inch for counseling and medical services, expanding to include dental services in the Danville area meant tapping into an already established partnership. In the early part of 2020, Chief Executive Officer of the Health Center, Lane Belangia, met with Dr. Aaron Lerg of Danville Family Dental about purchasing the Knox County Dental practice located at 706 South Market Street.

“It was an expansion and purchase that just made sense. We have something unique to offer the Danville area, with our sliding fee scale and acceptance of all patients no matter their ability to pay for services,” Belangia explained. “Dr. Lerg and his team have been great partners, assisting us with opening the site under new management, and creating a referral network for more advanced services through Danville Dental right across the street.”

While there will still be familiar faces of staff who previously worked under Dr. Lerg, the Health Center has also brought in new staff to fully equip Knox County Dental as a 5-day-a-week dental office. Most notably, Dr. Trista Mullins DMD will be the lead dentist. From Eastern Indiana, Dr. Mullins brings her dental expertise to Central Ohio where she will feel right at home. With many years of experience at other nationally certified health centers, she is very in tune with the services most requested by health center patients. She graduated from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts and has professional affiliations with the American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.

In addition to Dr. Mullins, Oral Surgeon Dr. John Cheek will also offer advanced dental services at the Knox County Dental office. Many patients may recall receiving services from Dr. Cheek at the Mount Vernon location of the Community Health Center. With the expansion to Danville, Dr. Cheek will have appointments available at both the Danville and Mount Vernon office locations.

“What we are really excited about is patients who already have appointments scheduled from before the change of management will not experience any hiccups,” said Belangia. All existing appointments will stay on the books as previously scheduled. “In addition to already established patients, we are also accepting new patients of all ages,” added Belangia. “Adding a Health Center dental location to the Danville area also brings the convenience many families need to have all of their appointments scheduled on the same day and at the same location.”
